ALL HORTS!! I wish I could remember which tulip this is...4th or 5th spring since planting and no sign of dwindling. Any ideas? Full sun, deep well drained light loam, South Somerset, undisturbed since planting, gets a light sprinkle of rotted woodchip in winter, and mostly ignored after flowering

A gripe about tulip collections. From a well know

A gripe about tulip collections.
From a well known supplier of carefully curated collections, we chose one with cherry red, bronze and purple for some spring va-va-voom. Instead of cherry red, we have pillar box red, followed by bronze over a week later, with the purple yet to come, in this photo.

Is it too much to ask of a country who has specialised in growing tulips for over 400 years to supply me with ones that flower at the same time? All tulips flower in about a 40 day span, assuming you plant them all on the same day, say 1st November. Granted, the time to flowering will vary according to how cold or wet winter is...but they should still all flower in the same order.

I bet Holland know to the day how long it takes for each variety to flower, all other things being, and plan their planting for the displays at Keukenhof accordingly. Calling a tulip Early Cottage or Late Cottage is too vague. Even within the same group, there is much variation in height and timing. A few days difference is fine, but not 2 weeks.
